Symasteride acts by reducing the size of the prostate gland.
Symasteride is used in the treatment of benign enlargement of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia. The prostate gland located around the bladder has increased, causing difficulty in urinating.
Symasteride is indicated in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia to:
– relieve symptoms,
– reduce the risk of acute urinary retention,
– reduce the risk of surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and prostatectomy (surgical removal of the prostate).
