Prostavasin Alprostadilum 60 μg
Form: Powder for suspension for infusion | Size: 10 ampoules |
1 ampoule of Prostavasin 60 contains 60 micrograms of alprostadil, a compound identical to a substance produced by the body called prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). Alprostadil relaxes the arteries and sphincters pre-capillary (the circular muscle cells that close capillaries), thereby increasing blood flow. Alprostadil inhibits the activation of platelets (blood cells involved in clotting).
Alprostadil improves cellular metabolism by increasing the delivery and utilisation of oxygen and glucose in ischaemic tissues.
The drug inhibits the activation of neutrophil granulocytes (a type of white blood cell involved in the inflammatory process) and thus reduces the release of toxic metabolites. Thus, it reduces tissue damage in inflammatory processes and probably in ischaemia.
Indications for the use of the drug:
– Stage III chronic peripheral arterial occlusive disease (according to the Fontaine classification) in patients who are ineligible for revascularisation, or in whom revascularisation has failed.
