Picopil, Natrii picosulfas, 7.5 mg
Drug for chronic or recurrent constipation in pills
Form: Pills | Size: 7,5 mg |
Pikopil is used for the short-term relief of complaints associated with chronic or recurrent constipation in adults and children over 10 years of age.
Sodium picosulphate, the active ingredient in the medicinal product Pikopil, is a topical laxative that, after being broken down by the colonic bacterial flora, exerts a dual action by stimulating the mucosa of both the colon and rectum. The stimulation of the colonic mucosa leads to an acceleration of colonic peristalsis and increases the water and electrolyte content of the colonic lumen.
Sodium picosulphate does not affect the digestion and absorption of calories and essential nutrients in the small intestine.
It is recommended to start treatment with the lowest dose. In order to achieve regular bowel movements, the dose can be adjusted to the maximum recommended dose. The dosage is 5 mg – 7.5 mg (started with a similar medicine of lower strength, increased to 1 tablet of Pikopil 7.5 mg), before bedtime.
The tablet may be divided into equal doses.
As with all gastrointestinal irritants, Pikopil should generally not be used for more than three consecutive days.
This is a medicine. For your safety, use it in accordance with the package leaflet. Do not exceed the maximum dose of the medicine. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
